First time nookColor use!!!!!!!!!!!?

I just bouight my nook color and in the instructions it says charge it full pwer before you use it. Do i have to charge it 100%?? cuz i wanna use it now and it takes 3 hours to charge it fully. If i charge it halfway will it work or is it bad???
